Farfield Mill, 17 Sep - 21 Dec 2025

Farfield Mill
Built in 1837, Farfield Mill was one of five mills in Sedbergh during the 19th century. Farfield wool and woven goods, such as blankets, were sold all over the world.

The picturesque, stone-built town of Sedbergh is a quieter place today, full of second-hand bookshops and much loved by visitors. N
estling under the slopes of the Howgill Fells, midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, it's the perfect place to unwind for a few days.

Farfield Mill is now a non-profit centre for weaving, mainly, but also for other arts and crafts. It both honours the past of the local wool industry and takes it into the future. Inside, you'll find antique looms, modern artists' studios, spacious galleries, weavings, jewellery, ceramics, glassware and wood-carving, much of it for sale.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, head for the Tearoom! It offers a comfortable place to relax, with excellent soup and sandwiches, cakes and coffee.

To find Farfield Mill, enlarge the little map. There is plenty of easy parking on site. The Mill is open Weds – Sun, 10:30 – 16:00, and entry is free.

People's Choice Award! On Sunday 14 December we will announce the winner of the People’s Choice Award for the Farfield Mill venue of Tapestry of the North. The presenter of the award, who prefers to remain anonymous, says: "I hope to promote the links between the viewer and the exhibition, and to encourage and support the development of the profile of the textile artists."

If you’re visiting the exhibition, make sure you place your vote before 12 noon on 14 December! On that day, we will hold a 'Meet the Makers' session from 2 to 4pm,  with the winner being announced at 2:30pm. Do join us to chat to some of the weavers and also celebrate the winner of this prize.
